To COOPERATIZE means to: Eliminate corporations and, more importantly, convert them to cooperatives
Indeed! ... communities whose livelihoods are provided by cooperatives will be fantastic and fun societies to live in. There are many ways to COOPERATIZE. Here're a few suggestions:
Cultivate a cooperative consciousness --- become aware of the cooperatives that already exist in your community and support them. Encourage other members of your community to do the same.
Banks are a good place to start. Take your money out of that Giant-Corporate-Money-Grunching-Predatory-Bank and put it into a Cooperative bank/Credit Union bank (Credit Unions are Cooperative banks). Just think of it, if you're a member of a Cooperative bank/Credit Union, you 'own-the-bank'.
Start a mass movement like Occupy Wall Street to--- 1.) Divest in giant Corporate banks and instead 2.) Invest in local Cooperative banks.
Join a Cooperative bank
If there's a cooperative grocery store in your community, become a member and make it your main place to shop for groceries.
Buy products that are made by cooperatives.
Buy food that's grown/raised by farm cooperatives (of course from farm cooperatives that use Revitalizing / Regenerative Agricultural practices.)
Support farmer Cooperatives
Similar to the 'Unionize' movement of the past, there could now be a 'Cooperatize' movement where existing corporations would be converted into cooperatives. Sincecorporations are the root cause of our major world problems (economic inequality, social injustice, and environmental degradation) this single act would cure a world-of-hurt.
Why not start a political party called The Cooperatize party? Politicians who run for this party could focus their efforts on Cooperatizing our business system, thus creating decent, honorable jobs for everyone who wants one. They could pass laws and make policies at every level of government that promote cooperatives and ultimately phase out corporations.
Remember what Bucky said?
Don't fight
Build a new model
Or, as the character'Calamity'Jane Bodine in the movie 'Our Brand is Crisis' said: "If you don't like the road you're on, start paving another one."
If you're an employee of a corporation, imagine what it would be like to work there if it was a cooperative. You would be a co-partner, co-member, co-owner of the business. You would have a say in how the business is run and share in whatever profits it makes.
Employees of corporations could form 'Cooperatize' Clubs where they get together and strategize about how to convert their place of employment into a cooperative. All employees in a corporation would stand to benefit from such a conversion ... except of course the hugely overpaid CEO. A fun movie about this very thing is 'New In Town' starring Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr.
The 'Labor vs. Management' division that has been at the heart of most labor disputes in the past would disappear since all employees are essentially 'partners' with an equal voice in a cooperative business. Unionizers could become Cooperatizers.
Imagine converting these giant corporations into cooperatives: Amazon and Apple ADM and AT&T Bank of America Corp and Bayer Blue Cross and Boeing British Petroleum and Burger King Cargill and Caterpillar Citigroup and Coca-Cola Dell and Dow Chemical and DuPont Eddie Bauer and Exxon Mobil Facebook and FedEx and Ford Motor General Electric and General Motors Goldman Sachs and Google Halliburton and Harvard IBM and International Paper Jansport and J.C.Penny's K-Mart and Kroger Lilly and Lockheed Martin McDonald's and Microsoft MIT and Monsanto Nestle and Nike Office Depot and Oracle PepsiCo and Pfizer Phillips 66 and Pillsbury Princeton and Prudential Raytheon and Reynold's American Southwest Airlines and Starbucks Time Warner and Toys "R" Us Target and Tyson Foods Union Pacific and UnitedHealth Group Verizon and Visa Walmart and Wells Fargo Xcel Energy and Xerox Yahoo and Zillow ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX, NBC, PBS
If you're studying business in school, study the cooperative business model.
If you're looking for a job, choose one that's with a cooperative rather a corporation.
Become involved in having your corporate utilities (energy/water/communication) converted to cooperatives. And then encourage the energy utility you own to SolarPV-ize.
If you need health insurance, obtain it from a cooperative health insurance business.
Form 'Cooperatize' Clubs in your community where members of the community get together and help each other to 'Cooperatize' their community.
Introduce [ HOME game ] to the schools in your community (grade schools, high schools, colleges, universities).
'Cooperatize' educational institutions
Attention all you Legal-Eagles out there --- Team HUMANKIND needs your help!
Converting corporations to cooperatives does not require an amendment to the Constitution. It basically requires changing one law, the law that grants corporations their legal status. Now what could be so hard about that? The business license of a corporation or cooperative must be renewed every year, just like an automobile license must be renewed every year. At such time you Legal-Eagles could get involved in converting the legal status of corporations to cooperatives, thus establishing System HONEY-BEE-HIVERY, thereby putting an end to System GRUNCHERY and its exploitation of humankind and all the other animals and plants that call Mother Earth home.
You could make a fabulous contribution to us all. You would be the stars of Team HUMANKIND! What have you got to lose? And just imagine what we all have to gain from your contribution!
Wouldn't it be fun to be the owner of the professional sports team of which you're a fan? You can be an owner if it's converted from a corporation to a cooperative. The American football team, the Green Bay Packers, is a sterling example of a professional sports team that's a cooperative. Talk to any owner of this team (yes, the fans are the owners) and you'll be blown away by the pride, involvement and fun they're having.
'Cooperatize' professional sports
As fans of any professional sports team, you could organize to chant 'Cooperatize' at any game you're attending, (thousands of you at any event) and that certainly could create a 'Cooperatize' awareness worldwide. Half the world's population, 3.5 billion people, are football (soccer) fans. Imagine all of them chanting 'Cooperatize' at their games!
